William E. Dormire was born on the 2nd of July, 1925, near Red Rock, in northern Oklahoma to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Dormire. He was the firstborn child in his family and was raised on a farm. He attended school at Valley Grove and Red Rock High School. Graduating in the early part of his 12th grade year to serve in the army, he was one of the younger soldiers. He was a kind and caring individual. During his service he often wrote home to ask about his family's farm animals. He was just a boy when he was shipped overseas, writing regularly to his parents to send him more "candy and nuts."
